Running -
   out the back door
   across the yard
   through the cornfield
   down the banks of the ravine
   past stinging nettles.
          *  *  *
Down, down to the creek,
and the great, gray rock
that formed an island
in the trickling water.
              * * *
Sitting alone,
   on the rough stone,
   enveloped by the cool, green stillness

Oh world, I cannot hold thee close enough!
Thy winds, thy wide gray skies!
thy mists that roll and rise!
Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag
And all but cry with color! That gaunt crag
To crush! To lift the lean of that black bluff!
World, world, I cannot get thee close enough!

Take joy

 No peace lies in the future which is not hidden in
this present little instant. Take peace!

 I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.
I will look at cliffs and clouds
With quiet eyes,
Watch the wind bow down the grass,
And the grass rise.
And when lights begin to show
Up from the town,
I will mark which must be mine,
And then start down!

Ceaseless becoming

Things do not begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop;
there is simply ceaseless becoming.

 There are vast realms of consciousness
still undreamed of,
vast ranges of experience,
like the humming of unseen harps
we know nothing of,
within us.

Tao of Heaven

The Tao of Heaven
doesn’t struggle, but it wins through.
It doesn’t ask
yet it always hears the answer.
It doesn’t demand
yet things come, because they want to be.
It has no desires
yet everything works out as if planned.
And though the [...]
